…or: “This post will only be of interest to about 6 people”

After being in the Netherlands for almost four months, we finally got our belongings sent out from the UK. Along with winter clothes, boxes of family photographs and all my guitars, came mine and my wife’s motorcycles (my wife has an MT-09). We really love our bikes and are very much looking forward to exploring Europe on them while we’re here.

However, despite looking for several years, I was struggling to find out how to change the speedo reading from MPH to KPH. I spoke to a Triumph dealer in the UK before I left, and they seemed to think it was possible, but gave me instructions which didn’t work on my bike. Maybe it just wasn’t possible, but I wasn’t keen on replacing them (new, KPH clocks will cost around €900!)

Finally, after digging around in the archives on a Triumph owner’s forum, I found the answer. I figured that if I was looking for this, maybe others are too, so here’s instructions and a short video showing how it’s done.

I believe this method works on all 1050 Triumph Speed Triples made between 2005 and 2010 (1050 engine but still with round headlights)

1. Ignition on
2. Hold all three buttons until speedo flashes
3. Press SCR button to cycle through the three options:

For the EU (Kilometres/Litres): choose 1
For the UK (Miles/Imperial Gallons): choose 2
For the US (Miles/US Gallons): choose 3

4. Press SET button to save your choice

Easy when you know how!
